JKC Lawyers and Hertfordshire Domestic Abuse Helpline, working in partnership, are delighted to announce the launch of a domestic abuse drop in service at JKC’s offices in Watford with effect from 22 January 2020.

About the service:

Location: JKC Lawyers, 12 Station Road, Watford, Herts, WD17 1EG

Tel: 01923 234400

Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm

The service is available to ALL Domestic Abuse victims on a drop in (non-appointment) basis, and is also available to concerned friends and family members. Additionally the service is available to victims anywhere in the county of Hertfordshire, not just Watford. JKC accepts Legal Aid cases.

JKC staff have undertaken Sunflower J9 Domestic Abuse Champions training, and Senior Member and Practice Manager, Sherry Thakur, is a Lead Champion as well as a Trustee of Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline. JKC also have close links to the local IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advocate) assigned to Watford Court.

JKC also operate a 24 hour Emergency legal advice helpline on: 0203 9355 999.

JKC advisers can speak to domestic abuse victims who can receive free legal advice and support. A designated room at JKC’s offices provides victims with a confidential space to be able to make a private FREEPHONE call to Herts Domestic Abuse Helpline for non-legal advice or have the JKC adviser assist them with this. Victims can do this whether they are visiting JKC for legal advice or not.

The Helpline is confidential and anonymous and its call takers will be able to advise which of some 170 mainly Hertfordshire organisations would be best able to help the victim according to their individual circumstances. The decision as to what to do next remains with the victim.

The Helpline receives many calls from professionals seeking advice for patients and clients each year and is keen to remind GPs, social workers and businesses, that the Helpline is there for them too.

The Helpline is a registered charity which was established in 2002. Although independent, it operates in partnership with the many organisations which work under the county Herts Sunflower domestic abuse umbrella.
